Nucleotide repeat expansions have been identified as causative agents in several neuromuscular diseases such as Huntington’s disease, myotonic dystrophy, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It has also emerged that in these diseases, besides the protein encoded by the repeat expansions, the upstream RNA transcripts with the expanded repeats also contribute to the disease. I am investigating the role of repeat-containing RNA as a pathological agent and identifying genes that may control the RNA pathology.
